Problem Statement
Janet is a human resource manager for Fancy Hotels, Inc., a chain of high-end hotels located in major US cities, with 5,000 employees. Janet is trying to answer a question that often comes up for the hotel restaurants:
What's the distinction between a cook and a chef?
The hotel chain doesn't have clear-cut job descriptions that make the distinction evident, and employees carry both titles. It seems that cooks become chefs when they've been employed for a sufficient period of time within the hotel chain, and when their salaries have gone beyond the normal range for cooks.
Janet would like to establish a less ambiguous distinction between these two positions. She turns to the Occupational Assessor to research the matter. Please click on the Load Step-by-Step button to follow along with Janet's investigation.
