Accumulated Benefit Obligation (ABO)

For a company, this is an approximate measure of a company's pension plan liability. The ABO is estimated based on the assumption that the pension plan is to be terminated immediately and it does not consider any future salary increases. The term is also used when estimating the present value of an employee's pension which assumes that the employee ceases to work for the company at the time the estimation is made.
