eDOT data sources
eDOT is unique in that it utilizes data from 4 sources:
- Traditional job analyses are conducted by a consulting firm's staff, and the data they collect is entered via online eDOT job analysis questionnaires.
- Data developed for ERI's Assessor Series® software is incorporated into eDOT descriptions.
- ERI's PAQ Services. Job analyses records are incorporated into eDOT job descriptions and work characteristics.
- ERI collects online data, utilizing the O*NET approach to partial analyses.
Data from all 4 sources are aggregated into complete job analyses for eDOT positions.
eDOT descriptions have been rewritten and over 1,000 new jobs have been added based upon the job descriptions developed for use in ERI's Salary Assessor and Executive Compensation Assessor compensation products.
As part of this rewrite, ERI utilized the North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) and eliminated any references to "women's work." ERI found that close to 500 original DOT job titles have disappeared, as they have been compressed into other job descriptions or made illegal. (We still show these obsolete positions in the Archive edition of eDOT.)
Data codes.
The following data codes are used to delineate entries from various sources. Perhaps
this best illustrates the extent of ERI's data retrieval efforts.
