Now it's your turn to solve a real-life problem!
If you have a subscription to ERI's Occupational Assessor (OA), analyze the following problem:
Problem Statement
Charise Penobscot is a career counselor. Her new client, Jeff, was a Commercial Truck Driver. Due to an injury on the job, Jeff can no longer drive a truck or perform work that has a Strength rating greater than “Light Work.” However, Jeff would like a job that is in Transportation and Warehousing since he has some familiarity with those kinds of organizations. Jeff graduated from high school, but never took any college-level courses.
Charise plans to use eDOT to find Jeff potential jobs within the Transportation and Warehousing industry that are not desk jobs and do not require a college education. First, she selects the Disability Determination module from the dropdown at the top right of the OA screen (FLSA Overtime is the default).
Next, Charise identifies Jeff’s current job, CDL Driver and enters it under Job Title. She then selects About the Individual from the links on the left and changes Push/Pull to Occasionally from Not Present. Charise then creates an alternate job filter from scratch by selecting the Full Filter tab and, after clearing Conditions if any are present, Adds the following conditions to the filter one by one:
- Basic / Industry: "And" Within this industry: "Transportation and Warehousing"
- Basic / Physical Demands – Strength: "And" Strength "Equal or Less" "Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force"
- Enhanced / Education Level: "And" "Level" "Equal or Less" "4 – Equivalent to High School – does not provide for direct entry into skilled work"
In the Alternate Jobs section below, Charise reviews the potential list of alternate jobs.
