Technology in Total Rewards

Hiring and Onboarding

There are recruitment tools that can scan resumes and select the best candidates for a job. These platforms can also schedule interviews, track a candidate through the hiring process, and once hired ensure that they receive the appropriate onboarding information.

One of the very first AI applications in HR was resume screening but today, AI is used for generating job descriptions, talent sourcing, candidate assessment, and automated interview scheduling. During onboarding, new employees may receive training modules on organization policies and procedures, and answers to questions about benefits via AI enabled chatbots and virtual assistants. AI can even monitor new employee engagement during the onboarding period.

Health and Welfare

Online technology has had the greatest impact for HR professionals when it comes to benefit programs. HRIS platforms make it possible for organizations to manage, maintain and process employee information in accordance with regulations and organization policies and procedures. These platforms also make it easier to communicate with employees about their plan benefits, which may include medical, vision, dental, life, and disability insurance and work-life initiatives such as dependent care support, counseling, and wellness programs.

Some immediate advantages include:

  • Saving time and reducing paperwork by having benefits open enrollment online
  • Empowering employees to make their own elections online
  • Availability during open enrollment and year-round for employee life event updates such as change in marital status and dependents
  • Securely automating the communication of employee benefits enrollment data to health insurance carriers
  • Eliminating the costly errors associated with duplicate data entry and “missed enrollments” both during annual open enrollment periods and for employee changes throughout the year with effective tracking.

Total rewards platforms may not only provide compensation management and analysis capabilities but also tools for benefits management and analysis.

Many life, disability and voluntary plans are deployed online. Voluntary coverage may be shared with employees for optional purchasing or participation. Product offerings are expanded or enhanced once the employee and provider begin a relationship.

Platforms designed to administer health and welfare plans may use AI to assist employees in understanding their benefit choices, coverages, and how to make claims. It can field questions about the various plans and respond immediately. AI analytics may help the employer to understand the costs and benefits of their offerings relative to employee need and ability to pay.
