Mining Engineer Job Description

Description: Develops and designs open pit and underground mines, oversees construction of mine shafts and tunnels in underground operations, and devises methods for transporting minerals to processing plants. Finds, extracts, and prepares coal, metals, and minerals. Works to solve problems related to land reclamation and water and air pollution. Responsible for the safe, economical, and environmentally sound operation of mines. Ensures the safety of workers and compliance with State and Federal safety regulations. Inspects walls and roof surfaces, tests air samples, and examines mining equipment for compliance with safety practices. Excludes paraprofessional and supervisory positions.
