Problem Statement
Bob is the human resource manager for XYZ Co., which has its headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. The company has been in business for over 50 years and has a large accounting department. Bob has determined that, based on their education and the work that they do, most of the accountants are exempt under FLSA guidelines. However, his company has a policy of promoting from within and an employee, Crystal, who has been with the company for many years is going to be promoted to accountant. Crystal is a high school graduate and never earned a degree in accounting. She has learned on the job and has taken a few accounting courses at a local community college.
Bob is not sure if Crystal can be classified as exempt along with all the other accountants. He turns to the Occupational Assessor for an estimation of Crystal’s FLSA status. Please click on the Load Step-by-Step button to follow along with Bob's investigation.
