DATA COLLECTION

There are many sources of information on executive compensation. This course examines the data available through ERI Economic Research Institute (sponsor of the ERI Distance Learning Center). ERI is a research outsource for salary survey, cost-of-living, and executive compensation data. Founded in 1987, ERI provides this data via its online Assessor series.

ERI's Nonprofit Comparables Assessor Software

ERI's Nonprofit Comparables Assessor (CA) reports competitive compensation for top-management positions within 501(c)(3) organizations.

Users can adjust this executive compensation data for: position, organization size (in revenue), industry, state, and compensation valuation date.

The Nonprofit Comparables Assessor also reports the number of incumbents (n's) for each position. The sample size depends on the availability of Form 990 data by industry and executive position. A graph plots the actual proxy and 990 data. By selecting a "dot," the actual organization financial and compensation data can be displayed. In addition, a menu allows users to select comparable companies' summary data to be included in a printed report. Next, we'll look at a case example using this tool.
