An employer is usually required by law to provide workers' compensation to all employees. But state laws mandate different amounts and lengths of coverage, and it only pays in the event of a work-related injury or illness, lasts a few years, and the payments are limited.

Workers' compensation can be counted on with qualifying circumstances and injuries. But due to the limitations of workers' compensation benefits, it is wise to not depend on these benefits alone. Think of workers' compensation as a supplement to disability insurance.
