  • Cleans and sterilizes artificial kidneys (dialyzers), using cleaning and sterilizing solutions.
  • Connects entry nozzle of artificial kidney to various solutions, such as purified water and saline; connects exit nozzle to sink drain; and hangs artificial kidney in sink rack to prepare for cleaning.
  • Turns valves on sink and releases clamps on solution tubing to force solutions through artificial kidney.
  • Observes gauges and adjusts valves and clamps to maintain solution pressures at standards specified to rinse waste products from artificial kidney.
  • Observes waste water for color change indicating flushing of blood and impurities from artificial kidney.
  • Turns off valves and tightens clamps to stop flow of solutions after specified amount of time.
  • Releases clamps and disconnects artificial kidney from cleaning solutions.
  • Removes waste products, such as fatty tissue and blood clots, from caps of artificial kidney with pick or finger and rinses and soaks caps and stoppers in solutions to clean and sterilize caps and stoppers.
  • Inspects and tests artificial kidney to verify conformance to standards, and disposes of artificial kidney not meeting standards specified for patient use.
