Job Summary

  • Plans and evaluates conducted microscopic, macroscopic, and other tests and investigations of metals and alloys for purposes as metallurgical control over products or use in developing new or improved grades and types of metals, alloys, or production methods.
  • Directs laboratory personnel in preparing of samples, such as polishing or etching, and selects area of sample where microscopic or macroscopic examination is to be made.
  • Studies photomicrographs and performs microscopic examinations on samples to determine metal characteristics, such as crystal structure, porosity, and homogeneity.
  • Excludes paraprofessional positions.
