  • Serves as intermediary between importers, merchant shipping companies, airlines, railroads, trucking companies, pipeline operators, and the United States customs service.
  • Gives quotes for duty rates on goods to be imported, based on knowledge of Federal tariffs and excise taxes, and tracks duties and taxes payable.
  • Files papers with customs service and arranges for payment of duties.
  • Requires license by the US Treasury Department or operates under corporate license granted to employer by treasury department.
