Term: Critical Incident

Definition:A method of performance documentation in which the rater keeps a written record of on-the-job incidents and or behaviors, which may be examples of effective or ineffective behavior. The record is subsequently used as a source document to rate the employee. The purpose being to avoid subjective judgments, which feature in most ranking and rating methods.
