Health Care Benefits Benchmarking Survey Salary Survey

Benchmarking employer-provided employee health care benefits is the focus of the 2017 Benefits Benchmarking Survey report. The report emphasizes health care benefits but includes sections on paid time off, retirement benefits, life and disability insurance, and executive perks. Information is gathered from across all industries and revenue groups. Data cuts are provided by organization sector, industry group, organization size (number of employees), and geographic region. Information for this survey is collected October through January and results are published in April in pdf format. The report provides current data that may be used to identify trends in employee benefits so that informed decisions may be made for effective benefits management.

The 2017 report includes data provided by 71 respondents representing over 107,000 employees with regional breakdowns in the United States as follows:
  • Northeast – 27%
  • North Central – 27%
  • Southeast – 21%
  • South Central – 13%
  • West Coast – 13%
The top five employee programs offered by respondents that fall outside the scope of health insurance, life insurance, disability, retirement and paid time off are Holiday Parties, eighty percent (80%); Business Casual Days, seventy-five percent (75%); Association / Professional Society Dues sixty-nine percent (69%); Free/Subsidized Parking, sixty-eight percent (68%); and New Hire Referral Bonus, sixty-five percent (65%).

The Health Care Benefits Benchmarking Survey Salary Survey documents market-based pay data for 0 executive and 0 non-management salary benchmark jobs from up to three databases: digitized public sources, ERI Assessor Series data, and direct participants. The following information is reported for each job title (salary data are shown in means, medians, and percentile cuts):

  • Graph with a Trend Line and Data Points
  • Selected Characteristics of the Occupation (SCO)

Survey information is solicited through traditional mail, email, and online questionnaires. Each data submission is thoroughly screened by our team of experienced researchers prior to inclusion in a survey. No attempt is made to alter incumbent data as reported other than to normalize collected compensation amounts to a common date. Data collection begins October and ends March. Survey results are published annually in July, with an effective data date of March 31 of the given survey year.
