  • Receives and reviews housing complaints from residents, tenants, and the public regarding housing conditions, safety hazards, and violations of housing codes and regulations.
  • Investigates and studies sites to assess the validity of complaints and identifies potential violations.
  • Inspects residential properties, rental units, and multi-family dwellings and enforces compliance with building, safety, and health standards.
  • Issues violations, compliance orders, and citations to correct identified issues.
  • Maintains records and documentation of investigations, inspections, complaints, and enforcement actions.
  • Prepares comprehensive reports with findings, evidence, and recommended actions for use in legal proceedings, hearings, and administrative reviews.
  • Mediates disputes between tenants and landlords and provides guidance and education on housing rights.
  • Assists tenants in understanding their rights and the process for addressing housing issues.
  • Collaborates with other municipal departments, law enforcement, and community organizations and addresses housing issues.
  • Supports legal counsel in preparing cases related to housing violations and testifies in court proceedings.
  • Confirms that evidence and documentation are well-prepared and admissible in legal proceedings.
