Job Description:
Supervises tool designers who design broaches, milling-machine cutters, drills, and other single- or multiple-edged cutting tools, and related jigs, dies, and fixtures for production or experimental use in metalworking. Studies schedules and estimates time requirements for completion of job assignments, and establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet schedules. Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders, and assigns duties. Maintains time and production records. A combination of over four years of directly related training and/or experience is typically required for carrying out the responsibilities for this job.: Recommends measures to improve production methods, performance and quality, and suggests changes in working conditions. Studies specifications and confers with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and costs of tools. Interprets company policies and enforces regulations. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet department deadlines. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists in solving work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate employees to achieve work goals. Recommends or initiates personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures. May train new workers. May estimate, requisition, and inspect materials.
