Job Description:
Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in machining of work pieces, applying knowledge of machine shop procedures, machine tool setup and operating techniques, and production machining methods. Directs trades workers engaged in machining of work pieces. Ensures efficient and quality machine shop services. Prepares and studies schedules and estimates time, cost, and labor estimates for products, services, and/or completion of job assignments. Work includes researching and evaluating the effectiveness of machinery, equipment and shop procedures and recommending and implementing changes to improve operational efficiency. A combination of over one year of directly related training and/or experience is typically required for carrying out the responsibilities for this job. This position typically reports to a manager and is the first level of supervision in the organization.: Receives requests for fabrication and/or repair of machinery, equipment, and/or component parts. Establishes or adjusts work procedures to meet production schedules, using knowledge of capacities of machines and equipment. Determines priority and sequence of operations. Inspects work, in progress and completed, to ensure conformance to specifications. Keeps records of work, in process and completed, along with employee time and materials. Issues purchase requisitions for materials and parts necessary to perform work. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices. Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems. May recruit, hire, train staff, evaluate employee performance, and recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary action.
