Job Description:
Directs, oversees, and coordinates activities of employees engaged in compounding, mixing, packaging, labeling, and dispensing prescribed medications, drugs, and other pharmaceuticals for patient care, according to professional standards and State and Federal legal requirements. Selects vendors and authorizes purchase of pharmaceutical items. Provides consultative advice to nursing and medical staffs. A combination of over four years of directly related training and/or experience is typically required for carrying out the responsibilities for this job.: Answers questions and provides information on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals. Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and disposal of hazardous waste drugs. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring work activities, such as preparation of records of expenditures, progress reports, etc. Analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and/or reductions, and may allocate operating budget funds. Interprets company policy to employees and enforces safety regulations. Furnishes budget and department reports for hospital administrators. Recommends and informs medical personnel of drug applications and characteristics. May recruit, hire, evaluate employee performance, and recommend disciplinary action. May instruct interns and other medical personnel on matters pertaining to pharmacy or teach in college of pharmacy. hide...show full description
