Job Description:
Manages and coordinates activities required to ensure an accurate accounts payable system. Develops and recommends policy and procedure to govern the payment of company bills to the advantage of the organization in terms of cash flow and discounts. Plans, schedules, and directs the work of the accounts payable unit of an organization. A combination of over two years of directly related training and/or experience is typically required for carrying out the responsibilities for this job. The manager level is typically the second level of management and may have first level supervisors reporting to this position; however, in smaller organizations the manager may directly manage subordinate staff.: Manages the investigations of amounts due from the company for goods and services purchased. Develops and implements methods and procedures for monitoring work activities, such as preparation of records of expenditures, progress reports, etc., in order to inform management of current status or work activities. Analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and/or reductions, and may allocate operating budgets funds. Establishes policies and procedures to improve the efficiency of the accounts payable department. Interprets company policy to supervisors and employees and enforces company policy and practices. Prepares reports on the status of payables. Determines the amount of credit to be extended and recommends amount of working capital necessary to finance accounts payable. Manages maintenance of accounts payable ledger. Manages adjustment of customer claims. Conducts or participates in special studies of economic conditions in particular industries.
