Job Description:
Draws maps, diagrams, profiles, cross sections, directional surveys, and subsurface formations to represent geological or geophysical stratigraphy and locations of gas and oil deposits. Creates preliminary or final sketch of proposed drawing, using standard drafting techniques and devices or using computer-assisted design/drafting equipment. Most companies require one to two years of postsecondary training in drafting with courses in math, science, computer technology, design or computer graphics, and considerable skill and experience using computer-aided drafting (CAD) systems.: Prepares working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches and notes according to specifications. Calculates and lays profiles, cross sections, directional surveys and relationship of various features utilizing knowledge of engineering practices, mathematics, geology, technology, and related physical sciences. Correlates and interprets data obtained from topographical surveys, well logs, or geophysical prospecting reports, utilizing special symbols to denote geological and geophysical formations or oil field installations.
