Term: Consumer Price Index (CPI)
Definition:CPI measures the change in consumer prices, as determined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics' monthly survey. Many pension and employment contract changes are tied to changes in consumer prices. This protects employees against inflation and reduced purchasing power.
