Inspects and monitors functions of railroad track and structures in an assigned territory to ensure compliance with Federal safety and health regulations.
Creates and leads implementation of an inspection program to provide the greatest coverage of the railroad track network.
Operates a track geometry car (automated track inspection vehicle) that measures position, curvature, alignment of the track, smoothness, and the cross-level of the two rails; and detects, locates, and evaluates deviations.
Performs on-ground inspections of defects to determine the how serious the problems are, and determines the best way to correct them.
Communicates track conditions to appropriate management so repairs can be scheduled.
