Job Summary

Description:
  • Drafts detailed construction drawings, topographical profiles, and related maps and specifications used in planning and construction of civil engineering projects, such as highways, river and harbor improvements, flood control, drainage, bridges, pipelines, and water and sewage systems.
  • Requires postsecondary school training in drafting along with well-developed drafting and mechanical drawing skills; a knowledge of drafting standards, mathematics, science, and engineering technology; and a solid background in computer-aided drafting and design techniques.
  • After gaining experience, drafters progress to more difficult work with less supervision.
