Following on the heels of our look at salary survey results for administrative jobs, we take a look at Information Technology (IT) positions to finish up comparisons for salary survey results of major benchmark jobs.

This analysis compares salaries from participant submissions to ERI Salary Surveys between 2013 and 2014, for both nonprofit and for-profit reports. For each year, total averages were calculated by job title and included all industries and geographic areas to maximize sample size.

Information Technology related positions are a major part in many organizations throughout the United States.  As you can see in the table below, organizations reported higher salaries in 2014 for five of the seven IT related titles, ranging from 1.5% to 5.6%. Survey results for Database Administrator dropped slightly, while Programmer Analyst dropped considerably, returning to values reported in 2012.

Overall, IT related jobs exhibited a bit less variability than in prior years, with modest gains for many of these positions. As has been the case for several years, the trend for this job family appears to be wage growth for the future. It is important to keep in mind that typical salary survey methodology does not match year-to-year data by incumbent, nor are surveys restricted to the same list of participants.
